Home Based Business Reviews

Rich Jerk ImageThe Rich Jerk is the granddaddy (well, maybe father) of all internet marketing e-books.  Written by Kelly Felix (a.k.a. The Rich Jerk), this book pioneered many of the successful concepts regarding making money online, and launched the careers of many of today’s online entrepreneurs.  His products have taught thousands of people how to make money on the internet, including myself.  The current incarnation of this classic is a best-seller to this day for that reason.

Once you get past the obnoxious branding of The Rich Jerk himself (which is fairly cheeky, especially the cartoon character he uses that always reminds me of Leisure Suit Larry for some reason), this guy actually knows his stuff very well. Whether you’re new to internet marketing or not, there are some great ideas scattered throughout the book. I originally bought it a couple of years ago for $49.95; I’ve certainly gotten several (thousand) times that amount back so far implementing some of what I got from the book and on the forums.

The book itself has very good concepts, but for people fresh into internet marketing, it doesn’t go into a lot of detail, and folks might wonder how to take the ideas and put them to work. That’s exactly where the Rich Jerk forums come in – it fleshes out all of the e-book’s ideas and more in step-by-step detail. But (smart marketer) – you only get access to the forums by – you guessed it – buying the book. Too bad I can’t download all the posts and throw it into an e-book – they are a great resource themselves, and could fill many books with what’s inside.

The Rich Jerk: The Good

Rich_Jerk_3D_CoverNow that he’s dropped his price to $9.95, it’s actually an excellent value, if for no other reason than the lifetime membership to access his forums (and future updates to the book). For someone with little or no cash and just starting out, it’s also an excellent alternative to a membership with Wealthy Affiliate, if price is a factor. It’s also something you can pay for once you’ve made some money with Article Marketing.

This was one of the first books I bought that wasn’t a scam, and led me to some of my first successes as an online marketer, which I used to further build my business.  The strategies he teaches are time-tested and work as well today as when they were first written.  Indeed, many of them still form the backbone of my current business.

The Rich Jerk shows you several different ways to make money online, including affiliate marketing, selling products through dropshipping on eBay and the like, Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising, Google AdSense, and more.  He also gives tips on how to beat your competitors using these methods.

I can’t stress the value of the forums too much.  There are some rather helpful people on the forums who will take time out to mentor those who are just getting started.  It’s also a good place to do networking and get JV partners.  If you want to learn quickly, spend some time in the forums.

The Rich Jerk is also updating his blog on a regular basis (since 2008), providing additional tips and strategies to help increase your business.  While I’ve been in the game for a couple of years now, I still find this information to be useful and timely.

Once you’re a member, you can also visit the download page and pick up his e-book on Branding. There’s some decent information inside, whether your business is brick-and-mortar based, or online.

What Could Be Improved

rich_jerk_updatedThe two areas where they could improve the Rich Jerk are the following:

1) More frequent updates.  The last one I recall is from mid-2008; fortunately, much of the info is good practice for any online business, and is less time-sensitive.  Also, the forum and the blog are filling in these gaps pretty well.  While not essential, updates would be on my wish list.

2) Some of the strategies are more advanced, and you might not ‘get’ them right off the bat.  While understanding might not come immediately, it will eventually.  Again, the blog and forums will help there.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

While the book is inexpensive and has some great content, the Rich Jerk will probably try to up-sell you on the idea of one of their free websites. It’s free, yes – but you have to pay hosting, which you can probably get cheaper elsewhere.  Unless you just don’t want to do any of that yourself, I’d skip getting the website.

The Rich Jerk: The Bottom Line

Rich_Jerk_LogoNow that the Rich Jerk is less than $10, it’s an absolute steal.  It originally debuted at $149; even when I bought it at $50, it was a great value.  At today’s price, there’s no reason not to get it.

If you have any interest in internet marketing at all, I would recommend reading The Rich Jerk.  Once you do, you will know whether online marketing is for you or not.  If not, just use their money-back guarantee, and you haven’t lost anything.

But if you do decide to pursue making money online, you can make thousands of dollars with these methods.  I’m one of the success stories, so I may be a little biased in my opinion – that’s just natural.

I continue recommending it simply because it works, which is a good reason to recommend anything, I suppose.  If you are willing to do some work (and if you’re not, then you should probably re-examine your priorities in starting any business – online or not), The Rich Jerk is still one of the best ‘make money online’ books out there.

And at $9.95, which they will  refund if it doesn’t work out – no questions asked, you really can’t lose.

Final Thoughts

The Rich Jerk was one of the first ways I started actually having success in making money on the internet (the other was joining Wealthy Affiliate).  As long as you’re ready to take action, learn some valuable skills, and make money (five figures a month or more is very doable), then you can’t go wrong with this program.  It’s inexpensive, it works, and it has a money back guarantee.  And it helped me to start making a couple hundred dollars a day online, and it’s only grown from there.
